We don’t often see a good plan in place for an organizational strategy. This is wrong.

Unfortunately, the execution part of strategic planning is either mismanaged or missed completely. The reason is simple: the people in charge so not realize that their strategic plan is really a project or program and it needs a project management approach to its execution.

Every strategic plan needs the ‘plan’ part – not just the strategy part.

  • What are the major work ‘packets’ that need to be managed?
  • Who is in charge of each of those packets?
  • What is the schedule to completion?
  • Are there any major risks that we need to be aware of?
  • Who are the major stakeholders and are we looking after their needs?

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.  Strategy execution is really project management on steroids.  If you want to see success at the end of your strategic initiative, think project management.
